Enterprise Weekly #404: Our Recap of re:Invent, ROI Calculator, and More
AWS re:Invent was back in-action this week with over 50,000 people (compared to 21,000 last year), and we had our own Jon Lehr and Daniel Chesley as boots on the ground in Vegas.
CEO Adam Selipsky kicked off addressing the market downturn. During his opening keynote, he acknowledged customers’ temptation to “cut back or slow down'' on cloud spending (a key theme in the company’s last earning call where they reported slowing cloud revenue growth).
As usual, a slew of new capabilities were launched. Some that stood out to us:
Zero-ETL integrations: This will give customers the ability to move data without having to perform ETL between services, starting with Aurora and Redshift, along with a similar integration between Redshift and Apache Spark. While we don’t anticipate this gobbling up Fivetran or Airbyte, we’re excited to see how this minimizes developers’ manual data integration labor.
SnapStart: This will create an encrypted snapshot of the memory, disk state and cache that can be reused by Lambda when started up again. Cold start times have always been a thorn in the side of serverless, so this may give the necessary boost to move more workloads to Lambda.
DataZone: Powered by ML, this will allow customers to build their own data catalogs with searchable metadata and fine-grained controls to manage and govern their data. The data catalog space has been heating up lately as it empowers folks across the business to discover, use, and collaborate with enterprise data. However, competitors abound with tools like Alation, Collibra, and other emerging startups like Atlan, Stemma, and Acryl Data, all trying to claim the market.

Lastly, as sellers get more scrutiny in today's budget constrained environment, we created a Business Value Calculator to help flex the ROI of their offerings vs. a home-grown solution and arm them with the details of how the product will impact the prospect’s business and why now more than ever is the right time to buy.
