Enterprise Weekly #405: Salesforce & Slack Exec Shakeup, Womenterprise Report, and More
Last week, we included the news that Salesforce co-CEO Bret Taylor is stepping down in January. This week, the situation got a lot more interesting. Five additional top executives announced their departure. Most notable are Slack’s CEO and co-founder Stewart Butterfield (which Salesforce acquired for nearly $28B in 2021) and Tableau’s CEO Mark Nelson (which Salesforce acquired for $15.7B in 2019).
Salesforce will surely see challenges in the coming year, but we’re excited to see Lidiane Jones, VP and GM of Commerce Cloud, Marketing Cloud and Experience Cloud at Salesforce, take over as Slack CEO. Salesforce believes that her strong and diverse technical background will set her up for success as her role will walk a fine line between improving the user experience and meeting enterprise requirements.
While her appointment is glimmer of hope for the future of women in enterprise software, our 2nd annual #Womenterprise Report released this week has less positive data - the gender disparity is far worse for women in enterprise software than the broader tech ecosystem and the problem remains relatively unsolved from 2021.
There are 401 female-founded enterprise software startups in the US...that's only an increase of 47 companies from last year
That’s 2.08% of all enterprise software startups...far less than the 25.7% of broader (non-enterprise specific) female-founded startups
We break down the data by sector, geography, and stage, as well as provide tactical solutions to support women across the enterprise. One of which is for VC firms to hire / promote more women into check writing roles. While women represent just 16% of GPs at firms, we saw 28 women make partner this year…but wonder how many men made partner this year 🤔
