Enterprise Weekly #425: Memory Upgrades, Drive-Thru Chatbots, and More

Per usual, it’s been another big week in AI news.

Memory is an integral part of text generation models, and to date, OpenAI’s GPT models have the attention span of a goldfish. Whenever the model generates a response, it only accounts for a finite amount of text, limiting its ability to summarize or create larger pieces of content.

Yesterday, AI research company Anthropic dropped its latest upgrades to Claude, their flagship text-generating AI model. With these updates, Claude expanded its number of tokens from 9,000 to 100,000 tokens, or in human terms, up to 75,000 words! This one ups OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, which clocks in at 32,000 tokens.

Anthropic called out a few use cases for the technology including the ability to summarize and explain dense legal, financial, and research documents, analyze strategic risks and opportunities for a company based on its annual reports, and even prototype designs by dropping an entire codebase into the context and intelligently build on or modify it, among others.

Only time will tell how big of an advancement Anthropic’s upgraded Claude model is as research institutions, cloud giants, and open source contributors continue to vie for the limelight.

Perhaps most importantly, Wendy’s rolled out a new chatbot meant to streamline the drive-through ordering experience. Wendy’s software engineers have been working with Google to build and fine-tune a generative AI application on top of Google’s own large language model. The model includes customized words and phrases and can even understand abbreviations like “JBC” for Junior Bacon Cheeseburger. The chatbot will be officially rolled out to company-owned locations in Columbus Ohio. This begs the question, how much increased traffic is Columbus going to see in the coming weeks?
