Enterprise Weekly #546: Fastest Growing Github Repo, The Importance of Community, and More
Work-Bench is a NYC-based $160M enterprise software Seed stage VC fund. If you are or know anyone thinking about founding an enterprise software, SaaS, or infrastructure software startup - we’d love to meet! Please reach out to chat.
Platform shifts in technology enables growth that has just one word to describe it: vertical.
This graph above shows the rise of OpenClaw (previously known as Clawd). It’s become the fastest-ever growing repository on Github, representative of what’s possible in today’s AI era. Peter Steinberger, the founder, made 6,600 code commits in the month of January alone. But what’s more fascinating is not just OpenClaw’s incredible growth, but how it was built to make this possible:
Peter always uses between 5-10 agents in parallel.
He doesn’t read all of the code he ships, reflective of his belief that a lot of code is plumbing.
He outsources the line-by-line code understanding to Codex and assumes the role of the architect of the code.
While time will tell which habits persist, one thing is for certain: the broader theme of “agent-nativity” is diffusing across the enterprise ecosystem, and adapting to it is a must for continued survival. It’s one thing we’re talking to our portfolio about and encourage everyone in the ecosystem to think about: as the capability frontier gets pushed out every 2 months, how are your organization’s habits evolving with it? How would you change your roadmap if the models were all of a sudden an order of magnitude better? While it’s impossible to predict the future of the labs, that ambitious thinking may not need to wait as long as you’d think.
Speaking of our portfolio, we had an incredible week of announcements:
Spring Health announced their acquisition of Alma, who has done remarkable work in building provider-centric infrastructure that enables clinicians to serve patients with less administrative friction. Spring’s vision since inception has been to democratize access to mental health, and joining forces with Alma is a huge step in that direction.
Chamelio also announced their $10M fundraise, including a $5.7M seed led by Work-Bench. Chamelio is building an AI context layer for in-house legal teams with a platform that transforms contracts, policies, and negotiation history into a living intelligence layer to power end-to-end legal workflows. Their market pull is some of the best we’ve seen in legal tech, and we’re incredibly excited for what’s ahead.
Lastly, on Wednesday we hosted ~40 of our founders for a dinner in NYC. It was a terrific way to kick off the year, and once again reminded us of the power of community. When you bring a number of like-minded people who are at different stages of a structurally similar journey and are able to connect over a shared feeling, magic happens.
🚀 From Engineer to Founder: Building and Selling Developer Tools with Extend & Authzed (Feb 11th): Work-Bench is hosting an intimate fireside chat with Kushal Byatnal, Co-Founder & CEO of Extend, and Jake Moshenko, Co-Founder & CEO of Authzed, for a candid conversation on building and scaling enterprise software. We’ll go deep on Extend & Authzed’s founding stories, Kushal and Jake’s transitions from engineer to founder, and the lessons learned along the way from finding product-market fit and cracking go-to-market, to fundraising and building with AI inside a complex enterprise landscape. It’s a small, curated gathering designed for thoughtful conversation and high-signal connections with NYC founders and operators. Sign up here.
