💡 THE TIP
“Just bumping this” isn’t a follow-up strategy.
Every touch should carry one of two payloads: information they didn’t have — a lookalike case study, a product update that closes their gap, a cost-of-inaction number your champion can paste into Slack — or a date. And the dates that move deals come from their side of the table.
Board meetings, grant cycles, budget that expires, the contract they’re locked into (yours or a competitor’s). You don’t manufacture those, you find them.
The one date you build is the mutual action plan: when a signature is realistic, when implementation kicks off, when billing and usage actually start. Building it together is the point. If your buyer won’t commit to the dates, beware that the deal may not be real yet.
Special shoutout to Cristina Ciaravalli from Valli Ventures for this tip!
✅ THE TO-DO
Open the last five follow-ups you sent. For each, highlight the sentence that gave the buyer something new and the sentence that names a date from their world. Then find the deal where you highlighted nothing and ask yourself whether you have a mutual action plan on it. You probably don’t. That’s the one to build this week.

🤖 THE CLAUDE SKILL
Paste this in with your thread and whatever you know about the account. It finds the urgency levers you already have and won’t invent ones you don’t.
You're a senior enterprise AE pressure-testing a deal I may be
over-invested in.
ACCOUNT: [COMPANY, SIZE, INDUSTRY]
CHAMPION: [NAME, TITLE, WHAT THEY'RE MEASURED ON INTERNALLY]
OTHER STAKEHOLDERS I'VE MET: [NAMES, TITLES, OR "NONE"]
DEAL: [PRODUCT, ACV, STAGE, HOW LONG IT'S BEEN OPEN]
LAST TOUCH: [PASTE MY MOST RECENT EMAIL]
DATED FACTS I KNOW: [FISCAL YEAR END, BOARD CADENCE, EXISTING
CONTRACT AND ITS RENEWAL DATE, GRANT OR COMPLIANCE DEADLINES,
FUNDING, ANYTHING WITH A DATE ON IT]
1. FOUND CLOCKS. From the dated facts above, list the deadlines that
already exist on their side and rank them by how much my champion
personally feels each one. Anything I'd be guessing at, mark
UNVERIFIED and give me the single question that confirms it. Do not
invent deadlines.
2. BUILT CLOCK. Draft the mutual action plan this deal needs: 5-8
milestones from today to first product usage, each with a date, an
owner on their side, and an owner on mine. Include the unglamorous
ones — security review, procurement, legal redlines, data migration.
3. THE TELL. Name the one milestone my buyer is least likely to commit
to, explain why, and tell me what their hesitation on it would mean
about the deal. Then give me the exact sentence to say when they
dodge it.
4. THE SEND. Write the email that delivers the MAP, under 130 words.
It should open with something they didn't have before, not with the
plan itself.
Ban these phrases: bumping this, circling back, checking in, touching
base, following up on my last email, wanted to see if, just wanted to.Do you have a GTM protip? Send our way here to feature in an future issue! If you try any of these tips and found them helpful, let us know - we’d love to hear from you.
